She smiled, opened her arms and gave me a warm hug. Handed me a piece of paper with her phone numbers on it. It was love at first sight, I watched her while she walked away with a beautiful smile on her face. I stared at her until she faded away, realising i had fallen in love... i searched for phone to save her phone numbers only to find out she just stole it.

The Long Road Home The sun rose over the Durban horizon, painting the sky in shades of bruised purple and gold. Sizwe sat on a rusted bench, his breath hitching in the salty air. His clothes were tattered, his face a map of scars and regrets, but for the first time in forty years, his mind was clear. He heard the sirens first—a familiar song that had followed him since 1983. A police cruiser pulled up. A young officer stepped out, his uniform crisp, his badge gleaming. It was Kyle. He looked at his father not with hatred, but with a profound, weary sadness. "Is it done?" Kyle asked, his hand resting on his holster. "It’s done," Sizwe replied, standing up slowly. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the old, crumpled letter from Chapter 1—the one that had started it all. He handed it to his son. "The debts are paid, Kyle. Every single one of them." Kyle didn't use the handcuffs. He simply opened the back door of the cruiser. As they drove a...

The Sandton Job Fear is a powerful motivator. We headed to a supermarket in Sandton. The moment we stepped inside, Steve fired three warning shots into the ceiling. "Down! Everybody down!" I stood by the door with Steve, my hands shaking as I gripped the cold steel of the gun. The others moved like shadows. Lesego cornered the cashier. "You only cash up once a week, and you haven't done it yet," he hissed, throwing two bags onto the counter. "Fill them. Now. Or I’ll blow your head off." The lady was trembling so hard she could barely move. When the bags were only half full, she cried out that everyone was using cards and "swiping" instead of using cash. The crew was furious. We began stripping the customers of everything—phones, wallets, jewelry. In the chaos, a guard managed to hit a panic button. The alarm's wail pierced the air. Without hesitation, Steve turned and shot the man twice in the chest. We scrambled to the cars, peeling...

The Ghost of 1996 Thirteen years. That’s how long the stone walls of prison had been my only horizon. When I was finally released on July 12, 2015, the world felt like a foreign planet. My old friend Leslie picked me up and took me to his brother Johnathan’s place. I spent those first few weeks in a daze, trying to catch up with a reality that had moved on without me. Everything was digital now—the TVs were thin as glass, and everyone carried small computers in their pockets they called "smartphones." Johnathan owned a pub in the suburbs and a tavern at his home. To keep my hands busy, I started helping out around the tavern. One afternoon, Johnathan called me into his office. He placed a six-pack of beer on the desk between us and popped a cap. "Let’s have a drink," he said, his eyes searching mine. "I want to place you at my pub in the suburbs, but first, I need to know who I’m hiring. What got you sent away?" I looked at the condensation on the bottl...

The Broken Manager The shootout was brief but devastating. Thabo returned fire, and Sizwe dove over the sofa to pull Caroline to the floor. When the sirens finally wailed in the distance and Clinton’s men sped away, the room fell into a deathly silence. Sizwe looked down. His hands were covered in blood. Not his own, but Caroline's. She had been hit in the crossfire. "No, no, no," he sobbed, pressing his hands against the wound. "Is this... under control?" she whispered, her voice fading. Those were her last words. The police arrived in force. This time, there were no masks, no fakeInterrogations, and no Senzo to bail him out. Senzo had vanished the moment the first shot was fired, taking the R3 million with him to Cape Town. Sizwe was led out of his house in handcuffs. He passed Kyle and Lindiwe, who stood on the lawn. They didn't cry. They didn't move. They simply watched the man they once called father be loaded into the back of a van. As the ...

The Final Move Two weeks later, Senzo called a meeting. The plan was to expand to Cape Town, but the police—the ones who weren't on the payroll—were closing in. Sergeant Paul warned them that an internal affairs investigation had started. "We need to move the money tonight," Senzo said. "Sizwe, you’re coming with us." Sizwe went home to pack a bag, intending to tell Caroline they were finally leaving for Canada. But when he walked into the living room, he found Officer Thabo sitting on his sofa. Caroline was crying, and Kyle stood over her, protectively. "Sizwe," Thabo said, his voice devoid of the usual friendliness. "The heist investigation found a fingerprint. Not yours, but Jack's. He’s talking. He’s telling them everything to save his own skin." Sizwe looked at his wife. "Babe, I did it for us." "You did it for yourself!" she screamed. "We could have lost everything. We have lost everything!" Bef...

The Price of the Crown The tension in the house was thick enough to cut with a knife. Kyle, now twenty-one, watched his father with growing suspicion. He had seen the black cars, the hushed phone calls, and the way his father’s eyes had turned cold. Lindiwe, only seventeen, remained traumatized by the kidnapping, jumping at every loud noise. Sizwe was no longer the man who had sat crying in a chair over a debt letter. He was becoming a ghost. That Monday, the news of Carlos’s disappearance hit the streets. The criminal underworld in Midrand was in a frenzy. With Clinton in hiding in Durban and Carlos at the bottom of the Jukskei River, a power vacuum had opened. Senzo was ready to fill it, and he wanted Sizwe by his side. At the bank, Lihle pushed harder. She cornered Sizwe in the records room. "You’re changing, Sizwe. I see the way you look at the vault now. You don't look like a manager; you look like an owner." "Stay out of my business, Lihle," Sizwe wa...

The River On Sunday evening, Sizwe and Senzo tracked Carlos to a bar. They lured him into their car under the pretense of paying him. They drove to the Jukskei River. "You should have stayed away from my family," Sizwe said coldly. Senzo stabbed Carlos three times and pushed him into the water. When Sizwe returned home, Caroline was cold. "You spend all your time with Senzo," she said. "You're acting like he's your father. You borrowed thousands to look big, but we're still struggling." "I said we'll talk after work!" Sizwe yelled, slamming the door. He didn't realize that his children, Kyle and Lindiwe, were watching from the hallway, seeing their father turn into someone they no longer recognized.   Betrayal and Temptation Sizwe went to Senzo’s hideout to celebrate. They had taken R3 million. "When do we share the money?" Sizwe asked. "Be patient," Senzo said. "I’ll handle your debts personally. But don't go to Canada yet. We can run this city together." The next day at work, Sizwe’s assistant, Lihle, brought him lunch. Lihle was a close friend of Sizwe’s wife, but she had long harbored feelings for him. She began to flirt openly, even blackmailing him with his late arrivals. "I have a 'grenade' with me," she whispered suggestively. "Wanna see?" Before he could respond, Caroline walked in with another lunchbox. The tension was thick, but the secret stayed safe for the moment. Caroline told him a man named Carlos had come by, demanding money. Sizwe realized that as long as Carlos was alive, his family was at risk. Previous Episode   NEXT EPISODE

The Heist On Friday afternoon, at 5:15 PM, the crew arrived. They wore monkey masks and heavy jackets. "Everybody down!" Senzo screamed as they stormed the bank. Sizwe played his part perfectly, acting terrified. He led them to the vault, where they loaded fourteen bags with cash, gold jewelry, and two diamond rings. To make it look authentic, they tied Sizwe’s hands and feet and gave him minor facial scars with a knife. As they escaped through the back door into a waiting Land Cruiser, the "friendly" officers delayed the real police response. When the actual assault team arrived, they found only the hostages and a "traumatized" Sizwe. "They went out the back," the officer in charge noted after checking the CCTV. "This man is a victim. Let him go home." Previous Episode   NEXT EPISODE

The Aftermath   The raid was swift. The guards, overwhelmed by the police presence and a helicopter overhead, dropped their weapons. Cops flooded the building, finding drugs, human trafficking victims, and eventually, Sizwe’s family locked in a cottage bathroom. The leader of the gang, Clinton, was not there. While Sizwe was relieved to have his family back, he knew the danger wasn't over. Other loan sharks were still calling. Senzo provided them with a safe house near Crowthorn. "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you," Sizwe told Caroline that night. "How long must we live like this?" she wept. "One more week," Sizwe promised. "Everything will be sorted." The heist was set for Friday. Sizwe spent the week providing Senzo with every password, camera location, and security detail for the bank.   The Rescue The letter was blunt: I have your wife and kids. Bring the money plus R10,500 interest, or they die. Sizwe called Senzo, frantic. Senzo told him two of his men had been in an accident, delaying the heist. Meanwhile, Sizwe’s boss called, questioning his absence. Sizwe lied, saying his wife was in the hospital. When Sizwe met Senzo later, he found him with three corrupt police officers: Thabo, John, and Sergeant Paul. "They’ll be the ones 'interrogating' you after the job," Senzo explained. Sizwe’s phone rang again. It was the loan shark. "I know you took my family!" Sizwe screamed. "What? I didn't touch your family, man," the shark replied. "I'm just coming for your TV and fridge." Sizwe dropped the phone, confused. Jack, Senzo's scout, stepped forward. "Boss, I've been monitoring them. They were taken to a greenhouse on Garden Way Avenue. A man with a scorpion tattoo on his neck is there." ...

The Inside Man                                            As he entered the car, depressed and hopeless, a voice came from the backseat. "What took you so long?" Sizwe turned, his eyes widening. "Senzo!" He felt a wave of relief. "What brings you back to Kyalami?" "I have a deal," Senzo said. "I heard about your debts. I have a plan that can benefit us both." Sizwe remained quiet. "Come on, brother," Senzo urged. "We can do this." "I'm not interested," Sizwe replied. "I have a reputation to maintain." "Man, I’ve been your brother from the start. Don't let me down." "What’s the job?" Sizwe asked. "A bank robbery." Sizwe recoiled. "No, no! Not at my workplace. I don't want to go to jail." "It’s a clean job. You’ll just be the inside man. We’ll hit it in two months so it doesn’t look suspicious. I’ll call you to set up a meeting with...

The Weight of Debt He closed his eyes for a moment, sitting alone on a chair positioned in the middle of the room after reading the letter. In 1983, Sizwe worked as a bank manager in town. His wife ran a retail business in the southern part of the city. They had three children—one in primary school and two in high school—all of whom were excelling in their studies. But life wasn't as good as it sounded; dark clouds were gathering over their home. Sizwe was drowning. He owed R27,000 to loan sharks and another R50,000 to the bank. His salary barely covered food, rent, and petrol. Every month, the interest from the loan sharks rose by R500. They had begun to threaten him, saying they would kidnap his seventeen-year-old daughter and traffic her to recover their money. Desperate, he once contemplated suicide. He stood up, headed to the storeroom, and took a rope. He walked straight into the bushes without a word to anyone. As he tied the rope to a tree, he thought about smoking mari...
